Fixed! Last thing I need is a horde of Hamline Pipers marching angrily at me from Saint Paul. Hahah. You have a beautiful alma mater. Thank you for reading the newsletter and for letting me know the mistake. I appreciate it. Cheers! 👊👊
Those three signs were me, heading up to running the NYCRuns Brooklyn Half last Sunday. I've never run more than a 10k, and wanted to set a goal this year to run a half. I didn't think I could do it, especially after pulling my calf in March and had to shelve running for 3 and 1/2 weeks. But I got back on the horse and found a way. Your guided runs, coaching, and encouragement were critical to my success. I was so nervous on Sunday, hoping to average 12 minute miles. I beat it by a lot, and it was the kick in the pants I needed to go out more and tackle new things that are out of my comfort zone. Marathon next? Not sure if that's in the cards, but I enjoyed the mental challenge in pushing myself past my limits. Thank you!
Congratulations! Cheers to YOU! And no rush on deciding what race to do next just know that you don't need to go longer next time. You can do another half or a 10K or a 5K or a road mile or race on the track or the trails or not race at all for a little while. Right now... recover and celebrate your accomplishment.
I love it when Bennett drops like a serious bomb, deep into some long guided run. Tell you what, go for the marathon. They are god awful, soul-wrenching feats of self-flagellation, but the training before is epic. Some fantastic Bennett bombs once you go beyond the half training.
This was exactly what I needed to read on the eve of my first half marathon! Training is one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done and it also showed me what I’m capable of.
Blew out my calf three weeks ago, running the Windsor (CA) Half on Sunday, and while I've been resting, I'm not sure if I can do it. But I'm going for it. Whether Tucker likes it or not, and yes, they are named Tucker. Or Brett.
Coach, I am running my very first ever half this Sunday — I needed this today. I don't know if I can do it (I believe I can!), I am nervous (/excited), and the last few months have changed me so at least I am assured that my goal is a GREAT goal.
As a Hamline alum let me just say.. The Hamline Elite Invite is definitely in Saint Paul, not Minneapolis ;) Thank you for a terrific newsletter!

Ha, I think that’s wise! Thanks for hanging in MN with us 🙏

So great you were in MN. Have served a handful of athletes that raced in the Hamline Elite Invite. A great event.
