I totally felt this and have a few tears misting up....I love running and having you as a coach every day makes it a thousand times better 💝 Thank you for the runs, for these stories and for always cheering us on! You're the best!!
I tore my ACL three weeks ago. Over the past year i had really gotten into running. I did the half marathon training plan that you coach. This article really hit home. I won’t be running for several months and I know I’m going to feel some degree of fear. But thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for this powerful story coach! I’m currently two runs away from finishing the Get Started plan after a stress fracture in my hip. A year ago I was running for hours, falling a little more in love with running at each mile passing. I was training for my first marathon and all the sudden had to go in crutches. Now the constant examining for any hint of pain still there at every stride, not easy to get over that fear.

Oh powerful story. I have arthritis in both balls of my feet, and occasionally when it flares up, I try to ignore and continue running but then I reach a point where I know if I don't rest up, it will get worse and maybe I can't run at all. Bone specialist says maybe in 3 years I won't be able to run, and I'm determined to prove him wrong, but....... Your story has made me really think about starting to listen more to what my feet tell me, and if they tell me they need to rest, I need to listen more!
By the way, I'm doing my first HM this weekend, and you'll be with me in my ear, every step of the way,!!
My mom took a similar photo of me alone on a canoe in the middle of an empty lake. I was out there deciding about my future in basketball. Mothers know best.
After running for years and competing in track, cross country and road races, i hit heart issues. I continued to run through extremely reduced heart function until it degraded so much that any run was completely anaerobic. My final run of 2.5 miles took 27 minutes with 2 stops due to lactic acid buildup occurred on April 2nd 2022.
April 17th 2022 I had a heart transplant. May 11th I returned home and started walking 25 minutes per mile. Walking daily gradually increasing pace and distance, adding hills wearing a mask because of my immune suppressing medications was my routine.
Come July I was able to turn my walking into jogging. Little by little from my first half mile, to repeats of half miles i can now happily run 10km without stopping and with increasing speed!
I fully understand and appreciate the title and sentiments of your post! Awesome !!!
Such a great story, I think you should write a book "This is about running, this is also not about running"
